A&R

A&R Projects Manager
How long have you been working @ EMI & what was your first job here?
I started in May 2002 as Human Resources Assistant.
Current role @ EMI?
A&R Projects Manager – I’m responsible for administration of artist recording sessions and budgets in conjunction with the A&R Manager, as well as managing all admin functions for the department.
What qualifications do you have or what on the job training did you do to get to where you are now?
Bachelor of Economics; my first job after uni was in a graduate management trainee scheme, which gave me broad administrative skills across a range of areas. I built on these skills and developed skills in financial analysis in other roles. These skills, combined with my passion for Australian music, led me to my current role.
A day in the life....
No one day is the same! I can be booking studios, tracking down producers, monitoring recording budgets, archiving tapes or listening to demos. The one constant in my day is the morning coffee....
Best part of your job?
Getting to hear new music.
Best thing about working for EMI Music Australia?
Amazing roster of artists; getting to hear new music & being surrounded by people who are truly passionate about music.
First job you ever had in the music industry?
Human Resources Assistant - I worked with the Human Resources Manager on all the "people" areas, like learning and development, recruitment, payroll and employee benefits.
Most defining music moment?
My long obsession with Australian music began when I heard The Clouds "4pm" on the radio when I was studying for my HSC - my life, and my record collection, would never be the same again!
Useful advice to someone wanting a start in the industry?
Try to get as much experience as you can, whether in retail or through work experience with record companies, artist management, promoters etc. Make sure that your basic skills are strong (typing, PC skills, organisation etc). Be focused but patient!
